friends where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you will return; or, better still,
bring some family or friend along.
If you are buying:

Avoid deals that look too good to be true.

Make sure that the address of a payment website, in your browser, starts with "https" and has a padlock icon,
before you enter any personal or payment information.

Pay with a credit card or a secure payment service like PayPal for fraud protection.

For a local pickup:

Do not pay in advance, not even for delivery.

Inspect the item first and ensure that it's exactly what you want.

Make sure that the packed item is the one that you've inspected.

Only pay if you are satisfied.

Trust your instincts. Walk away immediately if a seller pressures you,
refuses to meet at a safe public place for a local pickup, or changes the rules at the last minute.
If you are selling:

Never ship items or hand over goods until you have checked your account and confirmed payment.

Refuse requests in which a buyer claims to have accidentally overpaid you,
contrary to the amount you have received, and asks you to refund the claimed overpayment.
